What we Do

Direct Primary Care - Health care as it should be. Sit back and relax - you're covered!

    Services at Durango Primary Care

We are a family medicine clinic providing a full range of care in a membership-based model known as direct primary care

Durango Primary Care is a direct primary care clinic. Direct primary care, or DPC, is an innovative way to get personalized, quality, comprehensive healthcare for a low, flat monthly fee.

To be more exact, DPC is a membership model for healthcare. Every patient pays a flat monthly fee to become a member of the practice. We do not bill health insurance.  This means no third parties telling you or your doctor what can be done, no middlemen, no hassle.  As a DPC patient, you forge a relationship with a doctor that knows you. No more scheduling months in advance; your DPC doctor is at your fingertips. If you need an in-person visit, you can usually book one the same or very next day. Email, text, or call, even after hours.  Enjoy longer visits and less waiting.

    Preventative Care

We offer adult annual/wellness visits, well-child checks and women’s preventative visits with advanced laboratory, cancer and cardiac screenings.  Our goal is to improve and maintain your overall health and to empower you with an understanding of your medical conditions and wellness plan.

    Acute/Urgent Care

Skip the urgent care and come to the office for same-day and next-day visits included with your membership at no extra cost.  Call or text for after-hours or health problems while traveling.  UTI on vacation? Get treated with a simple phone call instead of wasting your precious free time and money at an overpriced urgent care.

    Pediatric Care

Full pediatric care for children one year old and above.

    Chronic Disease Management

We specialize in ongoing management of chronic diseases of all types.  Diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, mental health are only a few.  Imagine the freedom to see your doctor quarterly, monthly, or even weekly to truly control your condition without worrying about the expensive bills that follow.

    Asthma and allergies

Mindy Jordeth, PA-C has additional training and interest in asthma and asthma.

    Minor surgery/in-office procedures

Suspicious skin spot? Annoying mole? We have you covered and you only have to pay the pathologist bill.  We also offer:

    • Ear cleaning
    • Abscess drainage
    • Joint injection and drainage
    • Trigger finger injection
    • Trigger point injection

    Orthopedic Care

Dr. Owens has a special interest in sports medicine and served as the team primary care doctor for Fort Lewis College athletics until 2022.  Let us evaluate your injuries fully before any expensive orthopedic surgery referrals. We can also evaluate concussions to help you get recovered and back to what you love!

    And More...

Acne treamtents including accutane, post-menopausal hormone therapy, testosterone therapy and medical weight loss for appropriate patients.

    • Save Money! - whether you have insurance or not, a flat monthly fee is often less than co-pays or office visit fees at traditional practices
    • Local - Much of the money we spend on health insurance and large hospital chains is pocketed by corporate CEOs and shareholders. The money you spend at Durango Primary Care stays local.
    • More time with your doctor - Sick of feeling like you're on an assembly line at your doctor's office, longer visits - even up to an hour, are the norm at Durango Primary Care.
    • Privacy - because we skip insurance, nobody else needs to access your medical chart.
    • Transparency - Our costs are clearly shared with patients, no more surprise bills!
    • Better access to care - we are usually available for same and next-day appointments.  We can get new patients in within a week.
    • Be Healthier - studies have shown that patients with a direct primary care doctor are healthier, have fewer hospitalizations, and better control of their chronic diseases.

We don't bill insurances.  Insurance will typically not reimburse patients for direct primary care costs.  Due to federal and state laws, we cannot accept patients with Medicaid.

Mindy Jordeth is a proud Colorado native who grew up in Denver. She received her bachelor's degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins and her medical degree from the University of Colorado in Aurora. She has been practicing medicine since 2013 with experience in Primary Care and Otolaryngology (ENT). She is passionate about preventative medicine and has special interest in women's health, diabetes, allergies and asthma.

She is thrilled to be joining Durango Primary Care and to be making the transition to direct primary care. She has long felt that the healthcare system is broken and feels revitalized in this model which allows better access to care and more one-on-one time with her patients. She believes this model allows the highest quality and personalized care.

She lives in Durango where she has practiced in primary care since 2017. She is very active in the community and enjoys ice hockey, rafting, and fly fishing.

Mindy's approach to medicine is simple: listen, collaborate, and never stop learning.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to reach out to us if you still have questions

No, we do not take insurance, but this is what makes us great! By financing out clinic with a low monthly patient fee we are free to practice medicine the way you need! We do not have any insurance mandated screening tests or questionnaires.  We don't need to limit visit times, telehealth visits or tests.  All medical decisions are made between you and your doctor, without any insurance or health system middlemen.

Members of  a DPC clinic get unlimited office visits at no additional cost. These visits can be as long as you and the doctor need. Because of the relatively small number of patients who are members of the practice, members are able to book same-day or next day appointments.

Members of Durango Primary Care will also have access to their provider after hours and on weekends through cell phone, texting or email.  We will offer wholesale medications and include simple office diagnostic tests such as strep and urine testing at no additional charges.

Also, members of a DPC get to leave the confusion and often demeaning world of the corporate primary care clinic behind. No more irritating phone tree and confusing (and often large) medical bills. No more burned out doctors turning over your care to a new provider every year or so.  Imagine house calls, phone check-ins and emailing your doctor. Enjoy a clinic where everyone knows who you are and treats you like family.

Lastly, you get more privacy. Your medical record, including physician’s notes are transmitted to your insurance company or Medicare so your doctor can collect a bill.  Does an insurance adjuster or some government employee really need to know about every symptom you're having? In a DPC practice, there is no need to share this information with your insurance company and your personal information stays between you and your doctor.

Healthcare is surprisingly affordable once we trim the fat and stop paying insurance companies, corporate VPs, CEOs and other managers. Scroll up this page to see our monthly and annual prices. You probably spend more money on your television streaming services!

Yes! Here are some common scenarios where a direct primary care membership will save you money.

    1. You take multiple medications. If you take multiple medications, we can save you money. Our office will offer wholesale pricing on prescriptions medicines dispensed directly from the office. Depending on the medications you take, this could save a considerable amount of money.
    2. You have multiple medical problems. More problems means more follow-up visits.  Most insurances only cover one wellness visit per year. With a DPC membership, follow-up visits for chronic disease management are included at no extra charge, whether you're seen quarerly or monthly!
    3. You need urgent care. The cost of a visit to a local urgent care could easily equal the cost of an annual membership to Durango Primary Care. An emergency room visit could cover the  annual membership for an entire family! We have all heard stories of patients who have been financially ruined by insane emergency room bills. Durango Primary Care will strive to give you access to same day visits. For after-hours care, your doctor is available by phone, text and can even do house calls to address minor injuries and illnesses.
    4. You're on a high-deductible insurance plan. Many patients are opting to buy cheaper, high-deductible insurance plans and spend a portion of their savings on a DPC membership. As a DPC patient, the majority of your health care will be taken care of by your primary care doctor. If your primary care doctor can't take care of a medical issue, it's probably serious and requires hospital care.  In that case, you are likely to hit your out-of-pocket Max which averages 4000-6000 thousand dollars per year, depending on the plan.
    5. You care about your health and healthcare. Think of it this way, you will have your own private doctor, just like the movie stars! You will have a medical expert on hand to answer questions, keep track of your preventive screenings, advise on diet and lifestyle.  You will have someone who actually knows you and cares about you. Your doctor can now focus on you rather than focus on billing and how quick he can get on to the next patient. You no longer have to waste time waiting on hold when you call the office and you no longer need to worry about your medical provider changing every year or so.

No, we are not a "concierge clinic." While there are similarities between this model and DPC, the two are different in fundamental ways.  Concierge practices require and bill insurance in addition to charging monthly fees, that are usually quite a bit higher than traditional DPC fees.  This allows them to have even less patients and even more time to dedicate to their lucky few patients.  This also means that they are still part of the insurance industry's complex reimbursement systems.

You do not need insurance at Durango Primary Care. However, your DPC membership is not an insurance plan and it is wise to have insurance for any major health problems or hospitalizations. We are happy to take patients with any form of insurance, or none at all. The only exception is for patients with medicaid. There are certain laws that make enrolling medicaid patients difficult.  These patients can reach out to the clinic to discuss options for enrollment.

Considering that, Durango Primary Care may save you money on insurance! Since all routine care is covered by your membership, you may be interested in switching to a "high-deductible" health plan that costs you less, but still keeps you from bankruptcy if you run into major medical issues.

Absolutely! Durango Primary Care aims to proactively keep you healthy, happy, and free of preventable disease. We do this by encouraging a healthy lifestyle and helping you take charge of your preventive Health Care. For our healthy patients, we are always available for treating those unavoidable acute illnesses and injuries as well.

In order to maintain a high level of patient care and access, we are going to limit the amount of patients who join the practice. Our current cap is set somewhere between 500 and 600 patients per provider. This is far less than the 2,000-3000 patients seen in a traditional practice. It is no wonder doctors have to see patients every few minutes! Imagine having a doctor with four times the amount of time to spend on your needs as a patient! However, the practice will fill up rather quickly. We encourage interested patients to not delay and sign up today!

Are you looking to provide your company with better healthcare? Trying to offer something more to compete for the short supply of workers? Do your employees need special screening or pre-employment physicals? Our providers has experience with occupational health and we are available to work directly with businesses to provide memberships. Better primary care for your employees reduces insurance utilization and can lower your insurance premiums.
