Our Team

Dr. Owens has over 15 years of experience in Family Medicine.  He graduated from Albany Medical College in 2011 and completed his residency in family medicine at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, CO in 2014. Since then, he has been practicing in Durango, providing high-quality adult internal medicine, pediatrics and women’s health.  He also has special interest in acute/urgent care and sports medicine.  Prior to founding Durango Primary Care, he served as the team primary doctor for Fort Lewis College athletics. 

Dr. Owens is a volunteer clinical professor of family medicine with the University of Colorado. He spends one day a week seeing patients along a medical student.  

He is excited to work in a direct primary care setting where he can provide high-quality and personalized care for his patients without the distractions and rushed visits of a traditional primary care practice. 

He lives in Durango with his wife and three boys.  He volunteers coaching youth lacrosse and in his spare time enjoys biking, skiing, and fly fishing.

Mindy Jordeth is a proud Colorado native who grew up in Denver. She received her bachelor's degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins and her medical degree from the University of Colorado in Aurora. She has been practicing medicine since 2013 with experience in Primary Care and Otolaryngology (ENT). She is passionate about preventative medicine and has special interest in women's health, diabetes, allergies and asthma. 

She is thrilled to be joining Durango Primary Care and to be making the transition to direct primary care. She has long felt that the healthcare system is broken and feels revitalized in this model which allows better access to care and more one-on-one time with her patients. She believes this model allows the highest quality and personalized care. 

She lives in Durango where she has practiced in primary care since 2017. She is very active in the community and enjoys ice hockey, rafting, and fly fishing. 

Mindy's approach to medicine is simple: listen, collaborate, and never stop learning. 

Laken started her healthcare career in 2013 with a position that focused primarily on homeopathic remedies, herbalism, and naturopathy. She then went on to earn her EMT-B and firefighting certifications to become a local volunteer which she did for many years before evolving into a full time job. 

Laken now practices phlebotomy as a career and is going on to become a certified medical assistant. 

Born and raised in the Durango area, Laken is a true local. She spent some time traveling over the years but has always found her way back home. She is now a caretaker for a dressage arena in Durango where she lives with her husband and toddler. There is never a dull moment with horses, dogs, cats, and a love for adventure. 

CJ is our medical/office assisant extraordinaire.  She is a seasoned healthcare professional with over 15 years of experience in family medicine settings, specializing in front desk operations, customer service, clinic management, and medical assisting. Known for a patient-centered approach, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to ensure seamless clinic workflows, CJ is experienced in scheduling, patient intake, medical record management, assisting with clinical procedures.

CJ was born in Florida but has called Durango home since 1985. With a passion for the outdoors, she enjoys gardening, spending quality time with family and beloved pets, and exploring the natural beauty of the Durango area through hiking, fishing, and camping.

SHELBY FORTUNE

Shelby began her healthcare career in the mental health field back in 2020, starting as a medical receptionist and moving to working as a Psychiatric Assistant in 2021.  Shelby is working to earn her Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification. She is also a certified phlebotomist and has a special interest in pediatrics, striving to create a comfortable and supportive environment for young patients.

Shelby is passionate about providing compassionate, patient-centered care. She enjoys learning new clinical skills, assisting with procedures, and ensuring every patient receives quality attention.

Originally from Texas, Shelby has called Colorado home since 2015. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, cabin life, and spending time with her pup, Bear. She is excited to be part of the Durango Primary Care team!
